My name is Arlette Williams, and I am a parent of a 7th grader here at Urban Assembly Unison. I work full time, as well as holding the President position on the PTA and a member on the SLT. I was curious and interested in Urban Assembly Unison when it became a choice during the middle school process in early 2012. I wanted a small school and an academic challenge for my son. I went to an open house and was impressed with “learning cultures” style. My goal for this school year is to build community. We have a unique opportunity as parents to create a “home away from home” for our children. I will work with students, parents, teachers and administration to create a safe, thriving environment. At Unison everyone has a voice and a place at the table. Serving as a PTA board member is not unfamiliar to me, I was PTA President at PS56 Lewis H. Latimer for four years. I enjoy giving my time and learning from the people around me. Also data proves that parent involvement boosts student scores and their social development. I am looking forward to an exciting school year!
My name is Judith Best, and I am a current parent of a 7th grader here at Unison School, as well as a 9th grader at La Guardia HS for Performing Arts. A full time working mum, holding positions on the schools SLT, and newly elected Co-President for PTA.
My goal for the coming school year is to be fully involved with the students, parents, teachers, and administration. I aim to do the best I can for our children’s education, all the while building a community; a safe haven where our children will smile each day while striving to be respectful young boys and young girls, who are proud to be leaders. “Everyone has a place at the table” here at Unison.
I choose to give my time unconditionally, as I believe when our children see that we are behind them, encouraging them, engaging with their teachers, peers, and willingly supporting their efforts, no matter how small the accomplishments, it makes a difference in their growth, self-confidence and education.
I hope just a little insight as to who I am helps you as your child transitions to our school. Welcome!
